Conditions of locations
The “Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium” is located in the northern city core of Wilhelmshaven.
The catchment area of this school comprises the whole city zone. The school’s setting is very appealing since the “KKG” is situated on the one hand near the city centre and on the other hand near different development areas like “Himmelreich”, “Maadetal” and “Maadebogen”. Moreover, the school is located in a street with low traffic volume and at the edge of two quiet residential areas. Besides, the “KKG” is not part of a socially sensitive area; thus, the social structure of the pupils is not striking at any field.
In 2005, a new concept concerning the bus service emerged in cooperation with the public utility of Wilhelmshaven and surrounding bus companies. This concept considers first the needs of the schools and further the new starting time of the daily lessons. These had to be altered because of the new education act amendment.
This optimized concept ensures that pupils, taking the bus, have a direct bus connection without long waiting periods. Moreover, the school is connected by secure cycle tracks being in good condition.
In terms of structure and in the school development plan of the city, the “KKG“ is intended to be a three-stream school. That is why at every beginning of a new school year three 5th classes are being established.
Concerning the classes of the upper stage, the “KKG“ cooperates with the three other grammar schools of Wilhelmshaven which are the “Gymnasium am Mühlenweg”, the “Cäcilienschule” and the “IGS”.
